Tomoko Takahashi's installation 'My Playstation' at the Serpentine Gallery in 2005 saw the collection 7,600 objects. All donated and collected by the artist they were densly arranged in the gallery and formed a complex mass of contemporary culture.
Takahashi is and almost obsessive collector of objects and ephemera and each item was specifically chosen for the installation. On the last day of the exhibiton the public were invited to take one of Takahashi's belongings home with them, the objects yet again became durable goods and lost their 'art' status. Another life is given to the objects as they assume another position in the homes of her audience.
